Actor Shah Rukh Khan is among the three International Celebs who picked up the 24th Annual Crystal Awards in Davos for their outstanding performances, as the Annual World Economic Forum meeting got underway. These awards were honoured for their commitment to improve one of the States of the World.

Australian Actress and theatre director Cate Blanchett (48 years) was second to get the award. She is also the one who fought for rising awareness for the refugees. Blanchett whom Shah Rukh asked for a Selfie, has won two Oscars and was nominated seven times for Oscars. The third awardee was a musician, Elton Hercules John (70 years) from UK, who fought for HIV and AIDS. His foundation raised more than $400 for treatment of patients.

Super Star Shah Rukh Khan (52 years) who is one of the most successful film stars in the World was awarded for his leadership in championing children’s and women’s rights in India. The star is the founder of a non‐profit organization, Meer Foundation, named after his father Meer Taj Mohammed Khan. The foundation provides support to female victims of acid attacks and major burn injuries through medical treatment, legal aid, vocational training, rehabilitation and livelihood support. The Organisation facilitates several on-field projects, knowledge-sharing initiatives and campaigns, awareness models, research and advocacy. Meer Foundation actively supports Initiatives and Programmes that empower and strengthen Women.

In admiration of the Award Shah Rukh said “Thank u for this honour. I consider my work with these heroic & beautiful women a great privilege as it imparts dignity & purpose to my life. I hope to spread awareness of the unparalleled heroism of these ladies & reach out to others in order to carry this work to its conclusion. With victims of acid attacks I have had the privilege to witness the unparalleled courage and compassion that women are capable of. I have seen the transformative strength of goodness and the healing power of gentleness.”

During his speech at Davos the Star said “Actors are renowned narcissists. No matter how much we pretend not to believe in external beauty, we tend to be obsessed by it one way or another,”

He further added that “Few years ago, I came across a lady who was brutalised by an acid attack. It changed my perspective. To disfigure a woman by throwing acid on her face is one of the crudest acts of subjugation imaginable. At the source of it lies the view that a woman does not have the right to assert her choice. What was done to them only made them stronger and more able. From them I have learnt how courage can catalyze victimhood into heroism, how solidarity enables the human will to overcome, how equality is not a concept but a truth that encompasses all living beings and how service of others is not a choice anymore, but a duty”.

Owing to the efforts made by Meer Foundation with respect to women empowerment and protecting women’s rights and child’s rights, Shah Rukh Khan was awarded 2018 Crystal Award by the prestigious World Economic Forum.
