Bengaluru: Convicted in counterfeit stamp paper scam, Abdul Karim Telgi passed away on Thursday after suffering multiple organ failure, reports said. He was admitted to Bengaluru’s Victoria Hospital and was kept on ventilator support.

“He is in the ICU and on ventilator. He is suffering from meningitis,” his lawyer Nanaiah revealed on Monday. The lawyer said that he should have been admitted a little bit earlier.

Telgi who was suffering from various ailments including aids, collapsed in Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, after which he was admitted to hospital.
A few months ago, he was accused of enjoying preferential treatment in the jail, by DIG of Jails Roopa.

It may be recalled that Telgi was arrested in Ajmer in November 2001. He has been suffering from diabetes and hypertension for over two decades, besides other ailments, including aids.

He was convicted for 30 years of rigorous imprisonment in multi-crore fake stamp paper racket. Since then he had been serving his time in Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru. The court also imposed a huge fine of Rs. 202 crores on him.
