The tussle between BJP and its poll ally Shiv Sena in Maharashtra on power sharing is escalating into a open war of verbs and wits. Shiv Sena is demands rotational CM post and key portfolios but BJP which is too short of majority is behaving big brother.

Common perception is that In the outgoing government, the Shiv Sena has got a raw deal from the Devendra Fadnavis-led dispensation. There are three basic reasons for that – the BJP and Shiv Sena had contested the elections separately in 2014, the Fadnavis government was formed on sound majority strength .

In the outgoing Assembly Sena has a strength of 63 and BJP 122, while in 2019 polls, Sena has got 56 and BJP 105. Sena dat in opposition for a while later latched on to BJP and shared power while the NCP of Sharad Pawar which gave unconditional support remained outside. In 1995, when the Shiv Sena-BJP came to power, Shiv Sena’s tally was 73 and BJP’s 65. Now, the Shiv Sena is insisting on some of the key portfolios – Home, Revenue, Urban Development, Housing, Finance and Planning, Rural Development, Power.

All eyes are on negotiations. But Shiv Sena is giving pinpricks to bjp with snide criticism on tne BJPs doings in Haryana, which is irritating the BJPs high command. There’s is another school of thought that BJP could do well go with NCP In the goverment formation.

However it is to be seen whether Sharad Pawar who was haunted by ED before elections on alleged money laundering allegations could make peace with BJP now that he had sizeable numbers.
