Peeved over the flare-up of communal violence on the Republic Day in UP town of Kasganj, the State Government has shunted out the district Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar Singh to Police Training School in Meerut. The Government appointed Piyush Srivastava was appointed as the new Kasganj SP.

The town witnessed communal violenc after a group of people attacked the Republic Day rally on January 26. In the stone pelting, a youth died and the in the violence that followed, two persons suffered grievous injuries. Several vehicles were also torched. The Government had to rush in additional forces to bring the situation under control, The police had already taken into custody 112 persons in connection with the violence. House-to-house searches led to the seizure of explosives.

Meanwhile, the UP Government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh to the kin of the youth killed in the communal violence. The government has said that the guilty would not be spared under any circumstances.

This is the first incident of communal violence after Adityanath Yogi government took over in the state.
