Even as Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh is limping back to normalcy, tension is still in the air. The town witnessed clashes between two communities after youth from one community pelted stones at the Republic Day rally taken out on January 26. In the clashes, a youth died and two more persons were severely injured.

The government, which has arrested as many as 112 persons in connection with the incident, said it will not spare the guilty. The UP police conducted house-to-house searches, during which explosives were recovered from few localities.

The police have deployed special forces Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and anti-riot personnel from the Rapid Action Force in the town. Drones cameras have been deployed for aerial reconnaissance to identify trouble spots and trouble mongers. Aprobe has been launched into the incident. There were some questions as to whether the Republic Day rally had the police permission. However, the police said no permission was needed as it was a national festival.

This is the first incident of communal rioting after Adityanath Yogi government took over. The town is in the communally sensitive Lakhimpur Khiri district.
