The Indian Air Force on Tuesday morning inducted  US-made Apache AH-64E attack helicopters giving a major boost to the Air Force’s combat powers. Air Force chief Marshal BS Dhanoa was the chief guest at the induction ceremony at Pathankot airbase and the  Air Force chief and Western Air Commander Air Marshal R Nambiar performed a ‘pooja’ ceremony . India is the 14th nation in the world to be operating th Apache attack helicopters.By 2020, the IAF will operate a fleet of 22 Apaches.  IAF spokesperson Anupam Banerjee saiIt  as of now in all 22 aircraft will come in phased manner giving IAF enhancedlethal  firepower with great accuracy .The AH-64E Apache is one of the world’s most advanced multi-role combat helicopters .

The IAF had signed a multi-billion dollar contract with the US government .The first four of the 22 helicopters was handed over to the air force by Boeing on July 27.Boeing has delivered more than 2,200 Apaches to customers around the world Additionally, the Defence Ministry in 2017 approved the procurement of six Apache helicopters along with weapons systems from Boeing at a cost of Rs 4,168 crore for the Army.
