The Jagan governments Media caveat has earned the wrath of  Press Council of India  and other glitterati of fourth estate Besides the PCI, several senior journalists expressed grave concerns on muzzling of press freedom .

The PCI has condemned the Andhra Pradesh government’s controversial order issued on October  30th which authorised bureaucrats to sue media houses for ‘defamatory, false and baseless’ reports.

PCI chairman Justice Chandramauli  said govt move would demoralise journalists at large with a cascading impact on the freedom of the press. Taking suo motu cognisance of the issue, the PCI chairman directed the government to respond through its Chief Secretary and Special Commissioner(I&PR).

Obviously the Jagan move is aimed at the controlling the Enaadu,Andhra Jyoti, TV5 , NTV channels  and newspapers which are seen as a pro TDP publications for publishing negative stories on Jagan regime . Jagan should take lessons from KCR who had successfully silenced the Media in Telangana.

Senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai  was the first to condemn the Blanket powers to bureaucrats as a political weapon would be utilized to intimidate journalists and stifle criticism. The latest move to prosecute the media for defamatory news and grant the powers to departmental secretaries is not at all a healthy move.

Despite the all round criticism the Andhra Information and Public Relations Minister Perni Venkataramaiah has defended the order stating that they are helpless as  certain media houses were publishing ‘baseless, defamatory and false’ reports on Jagan government.

Our government is still brand new, the red bridal paint on its feet has still not dried,  butthey’re already publishing such terrible news, he said in lighter vein .

Jagan had appointed two senior journalists D Amar and Sriramachandranurthy ,who were in pay of his   Media house Sakshi earlier ,as his media advisors. Amar had plush offices in Hyderabad and Delhi with huge staff( mostly union leaders, ex- Sakshi staffers) with task to paint Jagan govt rosy Murthy also had a big office at Amaravati for the purpose of Media management. They hosted parties and media briefs almost throughout Week to keep scribes happy .

When Jagan was reportedly unhappy that they did not Intervene and stop negative reports on the said GO Both hurriedly organised press meets in Hyderabad and Amaravati yesterday on Jagan direction to defend the government policy  vainly .
