As anticipated the Modi government has road rolled its poll policy to further integrate Kashmir with India by abolishing the Article 370 status to the Himalayan state .

Home minister Amit Shah informed the Parliament today that after scrapping the special status to J & K , the region has been split or reorganized further into two union Territories – J & and K and Ladakh – and would be directly administered by the Center. Article 370 for special status on Jammu and Kashmir will be removed, Home Minister Amit Shah said in parliament today in a massive announcement with far-reaching political implications. Jammu and Kashmir will also be “reorganised,” said the Home Minister, proposing the bifurcation of the state into two union territories – Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.

The union home minister said the Ladakh will be a Union Territory without an assembly and Jammu and Kashmir will be a Union Territory with an assembly and landmark pronouncements of the NDA government aimed at ending the decades long political and terror strife in the ‘Crown land’ of |ndia came after a crucial cabinet meet held at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s house this morning.

Removal of Article 370 special autonomous status to Jammu and Kashmir was a ‘temporary provision’ which was part of the poll manifesto of the BJP for decades both in the 2014 and 2019 general elections .

The parliament announcement on Monday was precedded by unprecedented lock down of the state since last week , with heavy movement of forces and also house arrests of house arrest of former chief ministers like Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. .Government had scrapped the Amaranth Yatra and also evacuated students and tourists out of the Himalayan state ahead of the movement of 35,000 forces in addition to existing 65,000 m en to J & KI and clamped prohibitory orders

Article 370 specifies that except for defense, foreign affairs, communications and ancillary matters, parliament needed the Jammu and Kashmir government’s concurrence for all other laws.It had also given a new identity to residents of the state including those related to citizenship, ownership of property, and fundamental rights, as compared to other Indians.
