“If a man isn’t willing to take some risk for his opinions, either his opinions are no good or he’s no good”.

It seems you can’t keep Ram Gopal Varma away from news (read controversies) for long…

He always operates in fifth dimension.

Director Ram Gopal Varma, of late, has, time and again, been making headlines for stirring controversies than making movies.

He is beyond our common understanding of good and evil, right and wrong, politically correct and incorrect. It does not mean that he has lost his marbles, clinically.

So, stepping aside from the entire holier-than-thou haranguing over his operating in the fifth dimension issue, let us admit for a second that there is absolutely no point or reason to write off Ram Gopal Varma as a filmmaker yet.

As, he is now planning to come up with a biopic on great phenomenon of Telugu movies called NTR.

No sooner he announced his intention to retell the story of NTR’s late age love, than he stirred a lot of feathers among TDP leaders.

The controversy around the latest project announced by filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, titled ‘Lakshmi’s NTR’, is refusing to die down.

The filmmaker has been facing flak for his decision to narrate the film from the stand point of NTR’s second wife Lakshmi Parvathi, instead of directing it from NTR’s perspective.

This idea has been met with much resistance, as it was Lakshmi’s ‘growing influence’ in party affairs, that had led several TDP leaders to stage a coup, and oust their party founder.

RGV’s detractors allege that Chittoor district YSRCP leader, P Rakesh Reddy, is producing the film and that this was a ‘plot’ by the Opposition party, to take on N Chandrababu Naidu.

However, Varma has hit back, and even denied allegations that the YSRCP was funding the project with a motive.

He said that he had never been associated with any political party or ideology and so Ihe woukd be partial only to the truth of the matter and, with regard to the producer Rakesh Reddy, it’s only a coincidence that he happened to be a leader in the YSRCP.

He said that It’s a love story full of hatred, jealousy, power mongering, backstabbing and above all unbelievable inter-relationship conflicts.

It may be recalled here that NTR had married Parvathi, his biographer, just before the 1994 elections, which saw TDP returning to power in the state.

However, her growing interference in party affairs and administration led to Naidu staging a revolt in August 1995.

He became Chief Minister with the support of NTR’s sons.

NTR had launched a campaign against Naidu for ‘backstabbing, but to no avail.

He died in January 1996 at the age of 72.

Lakshmi’s NTR, is a story of one single step that created love in the heart of one man but also hatred in hundreds. But that single step also re-motivated him to once again make millions of people love him.

But, will the NTR’s fans accept RGV when it is retold on silver screen..????

No doubt the name RGV has become synonymous to word Controversy…

And in living among controversies,
Ram Gopal Varma has successfully made himself trend.
