The worst fears of the opposition came true today as the BJP government of Narender Modi sought to implement its agenda of indianisation of the Himalayan continent .

The precautionary crackdown on the opposition entities on Kashmir valley began at midnight with the house arrest of all top kashmiri leaders . They all chose the Twitter media to send signals of what was happening in their state including their house arrests .

Internet has been blocked in the valley, land lines have gone dead, but no curfew is imposed though with ban on public meetings in Srinagar and other parts of the state .Services have been suspended in many areas in Kashmir Valley as a precaution and Satellite phones have reportedly been provided to officials for communication. Schools and colleges are closed in Ladakh, Kashmir and Jammu and various institutions have directed their students to vacate hostels. Barricades have been erected on many arterial roads, including the entry and exit points to Srinagar. Riot control vehicles have also been kept on standby in some areas where there are apprehensions of unrest, and stone throwing by locals is anticipated

The BJP leadership had a hush hush congregation in Delhi ahead of the cabinet meeting and the crucial parliament session where the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir into an union territory with state assembly and Ladakh as a new UT were declared along with scrapping of article 370 in the Himalayan region .

On their part earlier on Sunday, Ms Mufti, Mr Abdullah and leaders from all political parties from the state held a meeting and issued a resolution, warning the government of “consequences” if it changed the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
