In a major incident, banned Maoists attacked the security personnel in the Abhujmad area of Chhattisgarh and killed four police personnel, including tow Sis. Seven other police personnel were injured in the gun-fight. The encounter began at 11 AM and went on for two hours.

Abhujmad area, which comprises dense forests and is highly inaccessible, is considered a Naxal fortress. The encounter took place in Irpaar village, while the police were on an anti-Naxal operation. All the injured belong to the District Reserve Guards.

The police cordoned off the village and tried to nab the Naxals. However, Naxals got wind of it and opened fire on the police. In the exchange of fire, four police personnel, including two SIs, died on the spot and seven others belonging to Task Force of the police, were injured. On knowing about the incident, additional reinforcements were rushed to the spot. The injured have been air-lifted to Raipur for medical treatment.

Chhattisgarh is one of the worst affected regions and has been involved in fighting the Left Wing Extremism.
