In an effort aimed at assuaging the feelings of Rajput community and the Hindus, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat’s new advertisements list several disclaimers clarying on the various controversies that shrouded the period film.

The film which depicts the battle for Chittore between the Rajputs and Allauddin Khilji and the supreme sacrifice of Rani Padmavati, was mired in controversy over historical distortion and demeaning of the sacrifice of Padmaavati. Ahead of its release on January 25, the makers said the film is not history, but an adaptation of Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s “Padmavat”. Secondly, the advertisement has clarified that Jayasi’s writing is pure fiction and not history. Also, the unit has categorically said that there is no dream sequence between Deepika, who plays Padmavati, and Ranveer, who plays Khilji.  “The film does not have and never had a dream sequence between Alauddin Khilji and Rani Padmavati,” the advertisement claims.
Bhansali also stated that the film is an “ode to the famed valour and legacy and courage of Rajputs and portrays Rani Padmavati with utmost respect and does not tarnish her repute or misreperesnet her character in any manner.”
The state governments of Gujarat and Rajasthan have banned the film despite censor certification.
