NEW DELHI, Dec. 26: India on Tuesday accused Pakistan of violating the letter and spirit of understanding to abide by all commitments on Kulbhushan Jadhav’s case that preceded a meeting between him and his family members.

Reacting to the circumstances under which the meeting took place the ministry of external affairs regretted that the Pakistani side conducted the meeting in a manner which violated the letter nd spirit of understanding.

The MEA spokesman said the Pakistani press was allowed on multiple occasions to approach family members closely, harass and hector them and hurl false and motivated accusations about Kulbhushan. This was despite a clear agreement that the media would not be allowed close access.

He said the meeting started without the presence of India’s deputy high commissioner as he was kept behind a partition and did not allow him access to the meeting.. The spokesman said the mother of Kulbhushan was not allowed to speak in their mother tongue.

He said Jadhav was under tremendous stress before and during the meeting as he was not allowed to speak in an atmosphere of coercion adding most of his remarks were tutored nd designed to perpetuate the false narrative of his alleged activities in Pakistan/

India has cautioned Pakistan against any such mischievous behaviour.

“The manner in which the meeting was conducted and its aftermath was clearly an attempt to bolster a false and unsubstantiated narrative of Shri Jadhav’s alleged activities. You would all agree that this exercise lacked any credibility,” said a statement of the MEA.
