New Delhi: The visiting US Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson on Wednesday said that “India and USA stand shoulder to shoulder against terror,” in an apparent message to Pakistan. The Secretary of State answered questions posed by media during a joint press conference along with his counter part Sushma Swaraj.

Saying that India and US are natural allies having common concerns, Tillerson said that his country will not tolerate terror safe havens anywhere in the world.

Hailing the bilateral relations between the two countries, he further stated that India is crucial to USA-Afghanistan strategy. He backed India as the leader of the sub-continent.
Supporting India’s apprehensions concerning cross-border terrorism, Tillerson said, ”Too many terror groups find safe haven in Pakistan which is now threatening the stability of the democratically-elected government there.”
“the US wants to work with Pakistan in a positive way as this will be in their interest in long-term,” he said.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said, “The policy on terrorism of President Donald Trump can succeed only when Pakistan takes action against the terror groups.”
She revealed that the India-USA-Afghanistan trilateral meeting will be held in December.

Expressing India’s concerns over the new H1B visa rules, she pointed out the contribution made by the Indians working in the USA.
The External Affairs Ministry a few days before Tillerson’s three-day visit said that there would be detailed discussions on the strengthening of Indo-US partnership. In this context, issues like cooperation in strategic areas of defence, counter-terrorism, security, energy, and trade are expected to figure during the meeting between both the ministers.
