Islamabad, Pakistan – Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was transferred to the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, a day after the Islamabad High Court ordered his relocation from Attock Prison.

The order was issued by Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq on Monday, September 25, 2023. Justice Farooq directed the authorities to shift Khan to Adiala Jail, where all accused being tried in the courts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are kept.

According to the Dunya News report, an 18-vehicle convoy, including 15 vehicles of Islamabad police, two armored vehicles, and an ambulance, escorted Khan from Attock to Adiala Jail.

Khan was arrested on April 10, 2023, on charges of contempt of court. He was released on bail on May 4, 2023. However, on July 27, 2023, the Islamabad High Court canceled Khan’s bail and ordered his arrest. Khan was arrested again on July 28, 2023, and sent to Attock Prison.

The Islamabad High Court’s order to transfer Khan to Adiala Jail is significant. Adiala Jail is a high-security prison that houses many high-profile prisoners, including former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The transfer to Adiala Jail suggests that the authorities are taking Khan’s case seriously.
