Several political parties in I N D I A criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday for holding celebrations to mark the success of the G20 Summit on the same day that security personnel were killed by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Congress party was particularly critical of the BJP, with Chairman of the Congress’ Ex-Servicemen Department Col (retd) Rohit Chaudhary alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi displayed “shameless insensitivity” towards the martyred officers and soldiers by going ahead with his “self-praising celebrations” at the BJP headquarters while the news of the incident was being flashed at the same time.

“The BJP is celebrating its own success while the nation is mourning the loss of its bravehearts,” said Chaudhary. “The BJP is putting its political interests ahead of the national interest.”

Other INDIA bloc parties, including the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Trinamool Congress (TMC), and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), also slammed the BJP for its insensitivity.

The BJP has defended its decision to hold celebrations, saying that the G20 Summit was a major achievement for India and that it was important to celebrate its success. However, the BJP’s critics have argued that the celebrations were in poor taste, given the recent tragedy in Jammu and Kashmir.

The controversy over the BJP’s celebrations has highlighted the deep political divisions in India. It has also raised questions about the BJP’s priorities and its sensitivity to the concerns of the Indian people.
